REPORT ON THE FIRST RUSSIAN LEAGUE RUGBY IN WHEELCHAIRS

First Russian Wheelchair rugby championship was help in Aleksin, Tula Oblast, Russia from 21 to 25 November 2012. Wheelchair rugby is a team sports for athletes with disabilities, including tetraplegia. 4 teams representing Moscow, Moscow Oblast, Primorski Krai and Dagestan came to participate in the event. The Championship was organized in accordance to Wheelchair rugby international Rules, including assessment and classification of the athletes according to the IWRF Classification System. Pavel Rozhkov – Vice President of the Russian Paralympics Committee, Lev Seleznev – President of Federation for people with disabilities of Russia, Oleg Dobrovolski – President of Russian Wheelchair rugby federation, Evgeny Achkasov – Head of Exercise Therapy and Sports Medicine of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, - visited the event. The winner of the Championship was the team from Dagestan (captain – Mikail Gasanov).Taking into consideration the high importance of Paralympics Sport, Exercise Therapy and Rehabilitation in people with disabilities and tetraplegia, it is of the essence to support the further growth and development of Wheelchair rugby in Russia.
