This article presents results of treatment for grade 1 and 2 ankle sprains in 50 male football players (average age – 24,0±1,3 years). According to treatment provided, the athletes were divided into two groups of 25 players: group 1 was provided traditional treatment (physiotherapy, non-steroidal anti-inflamatoriy drugs, rest), group 2 – a combination of traditional tratment with injections of autologus platelet enriched plasma containing platelet derived growth factor. Avarage time to return to sports in goup 2 was sigficantly shorter (8,6±1,3 days) than that in group 1 (14,3±2,1 days). Within 6 months after returning back to sports there were no re-injuires reported in group 2, but in group 1 there were 3 grade 1 ancle sprains reported. This article showes that platelet enriched plasma injections into the ankle, in combination with traditional treatment, relives pain symptoms faster, shortens recovery period and decreases risk of re-injury.
