Panax ginseng was promote recovery of disturbed, the balance between the level of anabolic hormones (testosterone and insulin) and catabolic hormone (cortisol) after intense exercise. To evaluate the efficacy of herbal adaptogens objective criteria are the following blood parameters: a) an extract of the roots of Bryonia alba – IgA levels and the ratio of testosterone/cortisol; b) Eleutherococcus senticosus – insulin and the ratio of testosterone/ cortisol; c) Panax ginseng – the ratio of testosterone/cortisol. Thus, it is found, that the ratio of testosterone/cortisol determined in 18–20 hours after intense exercise may be an universal marker for evaluating the effectiveness of plant adaptogens in athletes.
